How to Add a Group News Item

  1. Log in to the main TDWG web site using your credentials
  2. Browse to your subgroup's news archive page
  3. As a Group Convener, you should be able to see toolbars and pencil icons next to the header and groups of text. If you don't see these tools please contact webmaster(at)tdwg(dot)org.

  4. You should see small toolbars with a pencil icon on the left and a starred page icon on the right.

  5. Click on the starred page icon (the tool tip for this icon says "new record after"). Add the "title", "subheader", "text" and "archive date" fields for your news item in the pop-up. If you do not see the "archive date" field, click the "show secondary options" check box at the bottom of the form.

    • title: The main title for your news item that will occur in bold
    • text: will be the body of the news item
    • subheader: will appear on the news listing on your group page and the homepage as a teaser. If you choose not to enter a subheader then Typo3 will take the first 500 or so characters of the news body and make that the teaser.
    • archive date: represents the date when the news item will vanish from the frontpage/subgroup page and will appear in the archives.

  6. When you have added all of your content, save the news item by clicking the diskette icon in the upper left hand corner of the page. The window will close and the news archive web page will refresh. Refreshing may take a few minutes.
  7. Your newly created news item should appear at the top of the news list. The list is sorted by date - most recent first.
  8. Check your group's home page and the TDWG home page to make sure the news item appears.
  9. Check the RSS feed to make sure the news item is being distributed. You can do this by entering the URL of the current page in a browser and adding /rss.xml to the end. For example:
