TDWG has established links with the following organizations:

  • GBIF: GBIF has provided financial support for TDWG's work on standards development. Many of these TDWG standards and protocols (i.e. TAPiR, LSIDs) are used by GBIF to achieve its goals.

  • OGC: a formal collaboration exists between TDWG and the OGC to promote dissemination of information about the diversity of life on earth. The OGC and TDWG are working together to develop profiles and schemas of OGC standards based on the TDWG international framework for representation of biological organisms.

Memorandum of Understanding with the Open geospatial Consortium (OGC)

A memorandum of understanding was signed with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) in November 2006. This agreement is in recognition that spatial information is an area of overlapping interest between our two standards groups.

Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) has a Geospatial Information Group. The OGC has two groups that relate to biological/natural history information - Earth Observation and Natural Resources and Environment WG (EONRE WG) and Sensor Web Enablement WG (SensorWeb).

The goal of the MoU is to foster effective collaboration in area of overlapping interest and minimize duplication.  Both organizations have granted three  complementary memberships for the partner.
